時候既然是深冬；漸近故鄕時，天氣又陰晦了，冷風吹進船艙中，嗚嗚的響，從篷隙向外一望，蒼黃的天底下，遠近橫着幾個蕭索的荒村，沒有一些活氣。我的心禁不住悲涼起來了。
It was deep winter; as I drew nearer to my old home, the weather grew overcast and gloomy. The cold wind blew into the cabin, howling, and when I looked out through a gap in the awning, I saw, beneath the grayish-yellow sky, a few desolate, barren villages scattered here and there, utterly devoid of life. I could not help feeling a deep sadness.

What the translation reads like
- Early modern Chinese prose is handled well. This 1921 story, printed in traditional characters, comes out as plain, readable English prose.
- Culture specific units and names are kept rather than converted: distances stay in li, and people keep their Chinese names, such as Runtu and Hong'er.
- Chinese quotation brackets 『』 become ordinary English quotation marks.
- The English stays close to the original sentences, so a reader of Chinese or Japanese can check each line against the source above it.

Any language the AI reads well, including Chinese (simplified or traditional), Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian. You do not need to tell us the source language.
Is it useful if I am learning Chinese or Japanese?
Yes. You read the original first and look at the English only when you are stuck. It is far faster than copying sentences into a dictionary app.
Can I translate from English into another language instead?
